Welcome to the Nurturing Inclusive Cybersecurity Education (NICE) Program
The Nurturing Inclusive Cybersecurity Education (NICE) project lays the foundation for creating more equitable Cybersecurity education programs in Oregon high schools and postsecondary institutions. The activities in this project are organized into the following tracks:
- High School Outreach: The University of Oregon is committed to inspiring young minds to explore careers in cybersecurity. The project supports monthly visits by team members and Cybersecurity professionals to several Oregon high schools to inform, mentor, and support their students in pursuing training, a degree, and a fulfilling career in Cybersecurity. The NICE project team members also provide information about admission and financial aid resources to inform and support high school students for joining Cybersecurity programs at UO and other institutions across the state. Finally, the project arranges UO campus tours for high school students to learn more about life on campus, visit Cybersecurity labs, and become familiar with different supporting organizations and clubs at UO.
- Training the Trainer: This project empowers high school educators to bring cybersecurity education to their classrooms. To this end, the project curates a comprehensive Cybersecurity course for high schools and annually organizes a week-long summer training workshop for Computer Science teachers from local high schools on how to teach this course. The project also offers resources and support for experiential learning elements for high school teachers to make this course more hands-on. High school teachers receive 40 hours of Professional Development Unit (PDU) credit for attending this workshop.
- Recruiting and Retention: The project also focuses on improving the recruiting and retention of underrepresented students in the Cybersecurity programs at the University of Oregon.

For High School Computer Science Teachers:
- Invite us for a visit to your high school to promote Cybersecurity education among your students.
- Sign up to participate in our next summer training workshop.
- Request information about our Cybersecurity curriculum for high schools and supporting materials.
